Review cell phone and landline plans

A couple months ago, I realized that I had not looked at our cell phone and landline plans to see if our usage matched our plans. Like I’ve talked about in a post on Vonage, we decided to go with Vonage mainly because we needed an inexpensive way to call Canada.

At first we went with the unlimited Vonage plan. This seemed easiest since I was not quite sure how much calling we did as a household. When I looked at the actual time though (Vonage has a really easy way to do this), it was well under the 500 minute mark. Since Vonage also has a 500 minute plan, we decided to switch saving about $10 per month. There was a one time charge of about $10 to do switch, but that will easily be made up in a month.

Besides the landline, I also took a look at our cell phone plans. My phone was on an appropriate plan given my calling history, but my wife’s was on a plan that was too high. Again by changing the number of minutes we managed to save another $10/month.

So that’s a total of $20/month that we were able to save by reviewing all of our phone plans. Certainly worthwhile.

Regarding cell phone plans, I would suggest looking into ‘family plans’ for your wife and you. The second line is very cheap to add on, and will probably end up saving you some more money.

You will have to wait until atleast one of your contracts runs out - unless both already use the same carriers.
    Just an idea
