Keeping Your Oldest Credit Accounts Around

If you have been applying for your free credit reports periodically, one way that you can help build credit is to make sure that your oldest card gets used once in a while. Since a major factor in your credit report is the average age of your credit card accounts, you want to make sure that your old accounts stick around.

Take your credit report and find the oldest credit card account that you still have open. Request a new card from the company and make a purchase every once in a while. By keeping the history on this card up to date you keep your average credit card account age higher– pushing your score up with it.
