optimized living

With an upcoming move into a house (yea! only 11 more days to go), I stopped by our apartment rental office to cancel our covered parking spots and discuss the last month and a half of our lease when we will no longer need our apartment. Since the house and the apartment lease overlap, which is quite unoptimized, I wanted to see what our rental office could do for us.

Of course we are not able to simply give up our lease and not pay the last month since we already committed to a specific time period. But the rental office did give as another option. As soon as we give them our keys they will attempt to rent it out. Whenever they rent it out, since they are not allowed to collect double rent on an apartment, they will pro-rate and send us a refund. Luckily the apartment is in an area (Redmond, WA) where there is currently high demand. Plus, our apartment layout is the only one that is available. Of course there is no gaurantee that it will get rented, but we’ll see how it goes.
